DIRECTORATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION OF PELLA

Directorate of Secondary Education of Pella (DSEP) is part of the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports infrastructure at the prefecture level. As one of the 58 Directorates of Secondary Education nationwide, their scope of work is the supervision of operations for both public and private secondary schools in the prefecture of Pella. This comprises 24 Junior High Schools – including 2 Unified (i.e. both Junior and Senior High Schools, 1 of which focuses on Musical Education), 11 Senior High Schools, 8 VET Senior High Schools (3 of which operate in the evenings and 1 is a Model VET Senior High School), 3 SEN-VET Laboratory Centres (for Special Educational Needs), 3 Laboratory Centres and 1 Unified SEN-VET High School. The number of teaching staff is currently about 1,181 (including substitute teachers and SEN staff), the administrative staff is 41, and the total number of students is 8,362. VET students are 2,042 and SEN-VET students are 109. As far as VET training is concerned, there is also a programme of a Post-Secondary Education Year – Apprenticeship Class, where high school graduates (mostly young adults) have the opportunity to gain work experience in their chosen professions (by working in local businesses and public services), while at the same time they can upgrade their qualifications and update their skills, thus making themselves more employable. The operation of this programme is supervised by appointed VET Senior High Schools and targets various sectors, such as Health, Welfare and Wellbeing services, Financial services, ICT, Agriculture and Food services, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering etc. Currently, there are 150 apprentices employed by 92 employers.
